The 2007 Clos Saint-Martin, acquired from a bottle bought in Bordeaux, has a pretty bouquet of morello cherries and cranberry, the oak now completely assimilated. The palate is medium-bodied but lighter compared to more recent vintages. This was a bit hard in its youth, but it has softened in recent years and retains admirable freshness on the pert finish. Drink over the next 5-8 years. Tasted at home.

Mid ruby. Luscious ripe fruit on the nose. A little tight and restrained and muted on the palate. Perfectly fine drink with nice balance but so reined in! Drying finish. (JR)

Fans of wines with striking minerality will be very fond of this effort made from 75% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Chalky tasting with a structured personality, this dark ruby/purple-tinged, medium-bodied 2007 has some elevated tannins to resolve, but its nobility, finesse, and elegance along with red and black currant notes, and admirable definition as well as length suggest it will drink nicely for 10-15 years.

Some freshness but not much richness. Easy and a bit soft and not appetising. Just a bit too much black fruit character but a pleasant enough drink. (JR)
