The 2015 Bourgogne Hautes Cotes de Nuits Cuvee Maelie Rouge, which sees no new oak, has a slightly confit-like bouquet: crushed strawberry and redcurrant, a touch of pomegranate coming through with aeration. The palate is fleshy on the entry, soft and pillow-like in texture, easygoing in style but with a pleasant touch of clove and bay leaf on the finish. This will be an early-drinking wine.

Light and fresh – very pretty and unforced. Clean and appealing. Racy. (JR)

(from a single parcel just above the Vosne-Romanée limits): Healthy medium red. Black cherry tart, violet and licorice on the nose. Juicy and energetic, conveying a primary quality and a strong spine of acidity to the flavors of blackberry and bitter chocolate. Not a particularly ripe style for 2015 but the tannins are surprisingly fine-grained. And the wine's spicy and floral notes give it easy gulpability and a light touch.
