Tasting notes
Full ruby-red. High-toned, slightly roasted aromas of black cherry, bitter chocolate, licorice pastille and nutty oak. Then a bit green and clenched in the mouth, with reasonably intense dark fruit flavors complicated by a peppery nuance. Finishes with edgy, slightly sour acidity. Not bad but rather unyielding today.

The 2003 Brunello di Montalcino offers vibrant black cherries, blackberries, wild herbs, smoke and underbrush on a focused, taut frame. There is excellent balance here, even if a little more generosity would have gone a long way in taking this wine to another level.
