The 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Etelois comes from the small section of the village cru that sticks out into Griotte and Charmes (the section of the parcel that stretchces down to the RN74 is sold off to negociants.) There is a sense of volume and generosity on the nose with raspberry and crushed-strawberry scents, intermingling with violet (perhaps due to its proximity to Griotte?) The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, fresh and crisp with well-judged acidity and a very silky, almost airy finish that is long and tender. Superb. Just three or four barrels produced.

Duroché's 2012 Gevrey-Chambertin Aux Ételois is lovely. Deep and intense to the core, the 2012 flows with the essence of blue/purplish fruit, licorice, violets and cloves. I very much admire the resonance and textural polish here. I imagine the 2012 will offer plenty of near and medium term appeal. This is one of the fleshier wines in the range, and it is showing very well today.
