Score 90/100 · Drink 2018-2024, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Nov 2016

A dense, powerful wine, the 2012 Barolo Prapò shows plenty of Serralunga muscle. Iron, smoke, licorice, herbs and a host of savory notes underpin a core of intense dark red stone fruit. The 2012 exudes virile intensity from start to finish.

Serralunga d’Alba. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Deep nose of brooding fruit with a pretty, herbal edge. Youthful concentration and richness framed by fine, grainy tannins. Still a little unsettled, but has all the building blocks for a great future. (WS)

More than 30 days of skin contact. Lustrous mid ruby. Fine and minerally on the nose. Strawberry fruit on the palate with fine acidity blending in. Closes up quickly, but the balance is there. Fine tannins, and not as rich as usual, yet more approachable. (WS)
