Tasting notes
A soft, most forward offering is the 1997 Barolo Vigna Piccole. Dark plum-colored with a hint of amber at the edge, it exhibits sexy, herbaceous, kirsch-scented aromas, a fleshy, full-bodied palate, and an evolved personality. Consume it over the next 10-12 years. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. (516) 677-9300, Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. Medium red. Rather reduced on the nose, showing meat and smoke notes. Fat, ripe and concentrated, but lacks real nuance and verve. Seems a bit generic, especially compared to the more vibrant '96. Finishes with even, slightly drying tannins.
