Othello comes from the piece of the Dominus property that is near the creek and has a combination of fine-grained silt and clay soils. 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot. Matured in 20% new French oak. Deep purple colour. Gravelly with black-fruit and violet notes. Fine-grained tannin, elevated acidity. Loose-weave, open texture – earlier drinking than the Napanook and Dominus with a brighter and lighter profile. Brambly. Good freshness to the finish. It's open but not quite at its best yet. Produced largely from the vines at the very front of the property, where there are higher proportions of clay and silt, the 2021 Othello Red Wine marks the first time this wine has been released to the US market (it has been made since 2005, first for the Japanese market, then sold into Canada as well). There are 1,000 cases of this wine, which is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot that saw just 20% new French oak, with the balance being second or third-use. Aromas include raspberry and cherry fruit, with some softly dusty earth tones. Medium to full-bodied, the wine exhibits fairly soft tannins and a silky mouthfeel, not that rich or concentrated but balanced and gently savory on the lingering, mocha-tinged finish.

Dominus Estate – the Napa property owned by Christian Moueix of Pétrus and La Fleur-Pétrus – has rapidly earned cult status.
