Score 17/20 · Drink 2008-2012, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Oct 2007

100% Syrah, schistous soil, partial de-stemming, 3 week cuvaison in open casks with temperature control and regular pigeage and remontage, MLF in barrique, 20 months in new French oak barriques.     Greyish garnet. Plenty of intense black rich ripe fruit on the nose. Peppery on the palate. Firm dryish tannins. Slightly abrupt finish at the moment.  (JH)

(from mostly 10- to 12-year-old vines in Viailleres, Rochains, and Roziers; aging in all new barrels) Good saturated medium ruby. Blackberry and pepper on the nose, with a slight crystallized fruit element; offers stronger Cote-Rotie character despite its new oak tones of dark chocolate, smoke, cinders and spices. Rich and chewy in the mouth, but with a mineral spine and firm acids giving it solid structural support. Finish shows substantial wood tannins, with the tannins reaching the front teeth.
