Score 90/100 · Drink 2019-2023, Neal Martin, Apr 2019

The 1997 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc, a blend of 80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon, is a vintage that I had never encountered. The nose is fully mature with nougat, Devonshire fudge and dried honey. It sports moderate definition and is strangely reminiscent of a mature off-vintage Sauternes. The palate is balanced with a slightly viscous opening, fully evolved with a honeyed texture that segues into a spicy, almost Germanic finish that is personally appealing. Drink soon. Tasted at the vertical tasting at Malartic-Lagravière.
