Score 87/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous

Medium red. Smoke and black cherry aromas. Initially sweet and pliant in the mouth, but closed up in the glass. Ultimately seems a bit drier than the '96. The Marechaudes vines used to grow like bushes, notes Claude; the estate has been pruning these vines much shorter in recent years and getting better ripeness.
