Tasting notes
Includes 10% Merlot. Tang and life and super-appetising. Though woe betide anyone who drinks it without food. Just perfect! This seems to be to be so much better value than their Balifico. GV (JR)

The 2017 Chianti Classico offers a pretty succession of forest fruit aromas, cassis and dried raspberry with spice, tar and light shades of smoke on the close. This is an easy, light to medium-weight wine to pair with fried chicken wings. The blend is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Merlot. Some 120,000 bottles were made.
The 2017 Chianti Classico is laced with hints of sweet tobacco, crushed flowers, red berries and pine. Medium in body and gracious, with lovely perfume, the 2017 is an excellent introduction to the Volpaia wines. As always, the Chianti Classico here has a nervousness to it that is typical of these high altitude vineyards, even in 2017.
Cherry, walnut and stone aromas and flavors. Medium body. Firm, lightly chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
