Score 92/100 · Drink 1992-2002, Robert Parker, Jan 1990

While the Richebourg may not have the sublime, rather surreal quality of Madame Jean Gros's Richebourg (possibly the wine of the vintage), it is an outstanding wine. Deep ruby in color with an emerging bouquet of black raspberries, spicy oak, minerals, and spring flowers, this full-bodied, rich, concentrated yet tannic wine should be at its best by 1991-1992 and last for a good decade. It would appear that the entire Gros family has done something special in the 1987 vintage. The 1987s of this cellar are essentially equal in quality to the more highly applauded 1988s.
