Tasting notes
I loved the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La BAM, which comes from vines slightly closer to the creek and a warmer spot in the vineyard, and it always seems to be a softer, richer wine compared to the La Verdad. Utterly classic notes of blackcurrants, darker berries, chalky minerality, tobacco, and camphor all give way to a full-bodied, deep, rich, concentrated 2016 that shines for its purity. As with many 2016s now, it's tightened up slightly compared to when it was released. It offers incredible pleasure today, yet another 2-4 years will do it well. It should be a 30- to 40-year-wine when all is said and done.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Bam shows the richer, more open-knit side of Las Piedras in voluptuous, sepia-toned fruit. Ample, caressing and inviting, the 2016 will drink well out of the gate with minimal cellaring. This is a rare Piedras Cabernet built more on sensuality rather than pure power.
The very deep purple-black colored 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Bam comes sashaying out of the glass with provocative chocolate-covered cherries, crème de cassis, dried mulberries and fresh blueberries scents plus hints of potpourri, underbrush, sassafras, cedar chest and tobacco leaf. Full-bodied and so multilayered in the mouth it makes your head spin, the palate features very ripe, very fine-grained tannins and superb freshness, finishing with awesome length and depth.
