The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaut Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes is one of the wilder, more carnal wines in the range this year, offering up aromas of cherries, dark berries, orange zest, sweet spices and game bird, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich and layered palate that's structured and muscular.

The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaut Saint-Jacques Vieilles Vignes 1er Cru has a beautifully defined bouquet with hints of dark berry fruit, pencil box and tobacco. It's a little more introverted compared to the 2022 last year. The palate is very well defined with supple tannins, a millefeuille of lightly spiced red fruit and a lingering peppery finish. It has a little more presence and precision than the regular cuvée. This is superb.
