35% new oak. Cask sample. Deepish crimson. Like all the Glantenay wines, this has marked fruit richness, especially in this vintage. Super-smooth, suave tannins enclose that deep fruit. Generous more than elegant, but generosity is an achievement in a big vintage. (JH)

The 2023 Volnay Les Brouillards 1er Cru has a touch of bell pepper on the nose, though there is no whole bunch in this wine. It unfolds nicely as more black fruit enters the fray with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and a mix of dark berry fruit, black pepper and sage, leading to a fresh, sapid finish. Excellent.
