Aromas of cherries, berries and petals preface the 2023 Bourgogne Passetoutgrain l'Exception, a medium-bodied, seamless and integrated red that's easygoing and charming. It will be drinkable on release.

With Clos des Chênes, the first vines bought by great-grandfather Henri Lafarge in 1928. 50% Pinot Noir, 50% Gamay. Cask sample. Mid-pale ruby. Raspberry and fresh red plum – the Gamay fruit really shines through this. Sweet fruit on the palate but savoury and dry on the long finish. Worthwhile and not just any Passetoutgrains. (MH)
