The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses is beautiful, wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berries, orange zest, rose petals, spices and violets. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and pure, it's mineral and ethereal, with a succulent core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins, concluding with a saline finish. As readers may remember, this is now a tiny cuvée, as out of de Vogüé's 0.56 hectares in this climat, almost 0.2 are in the process of replanting.

Just 27 ares in production after half of the 56 ares (1.4 acres) were grubbed up in 2021. These will not be replanted for another 7 years. On pure limestone. Cask sample. Mid ruby. Quite deeply coloured. Red cherry, raspberry and assorted floral notes on the nose. Medium-bodied with plenty of structure in the fine, well-knit tannins and moderate, crisp acidity. An aromatic, fresh finish. Mineral and salty. (MH)

The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru, vinified with 50% whole bunches, has an understated bouquet that gradually unfolds in the glass with notes of black cherry, violet, flint and touches of graphite. It is not flamboyant, but it is toying with opulence. The palate is medium-bodied, poised and tender, with svelte tannins and a real peacock's tail on the finish. Again, this is better than the 2022. It is really quite a stupendous Amoureuses.
