Rich red-cherry fruit and ambition. Still quite astringent, but the fruit quality is convincing. Long. No bargain though. (JR)
Aromas of cassis, plums, red fruits and spices introduce the 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Prieur, a medium to full-bodied, lively wine that's one of the firmer, more youthfully structured cuvées in the Drouhin range this year. It will reward a bit of patience.
Rich purple, with evidently riper fruit. The suavity of the fruit is gorgeous, a dense almost plummy raspberry, this is a Clos Prieur with more stuffing than one sometimes finds in this vineyard. A crispness to the finish, to keep it honest.
About the producer

Joseph Drouhin is one of the largest and most famous producers in Burgundy, making both domaine and négociant wines. It remains family-owned and run, now in the hands of the fourth generation.
