Score 88/100 · Drink 2024-2028, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate, Jan 2025

With 50,000 bottles made, the Cordero di Montezemolo 2023 Barbera d'Alba ferments in stainless steel and sees a brief six months in oak. The wine opens to dark fruit flavors, dried blackberry, sweet earth and cinnamon spice. You feel the heaviness and the richness of the vintage within the chewy texture of this informal red.

Six months in oak of various sizes. Mid purple-crimson. Still a little closed and savoury/minerally rather than fruity right now and with just a suggestion of oak. Shy hints of rich cherry. Juicy blackberry and cherry fruit with silky tannins on the palate (WS)

The 2023 Barbera d'Alba is laced with expressive red-toned fruit, spice, cedar and crushed flowers. Delicate and understated, the 2023 is all class. Attractive floral notes lift the finish effortlessly.
