Youthful violet. Expressive blackberry, potpourri, vanilla and licorice aromas show excellent clarity and minerally lift. Concentrated, spice-laced dark berry, floral pastille and fruitcake flavors are supported by a spine of juicy acidity that adds back-end cut. Becomes more energetic on the persistent finish, which repeats the dark berry note and leaves a vibrant echo of cracked pepper behind.

The 2017 Côte Rôtie Les Grandes Places is also solid, offering a deep purple/black color and classic masculine notes of black fruits, crushed violets, charred meats, and liquid rock-like minerality. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, it's another age-worthy 2017 that's going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age.

100% Syrah. Tasted blind. Meaty, spicy and full of black-fruit richness on the palate. Lovely beefy note – classic northern Rhône Syrah that really exhibits the terroir. An exemplar. (RH)

Like the Champons, Pichat's 2017 Cote Rotie Les Grandes Places marries super ripe blackberry notes with firm, drying tannins. The medium to full-bodied Les Grandes Places does seem to have a bit more fruity intensity, so put it aside for 6-8 years and enjoy it over the following decade.
