Ripe black fruits, ground pepper, gamey meat, and tons of herbal notes emerge from the 2021 Côte Rôtie Champon's, a medium-bodied, foursquare, concentrated, chewy effort that has rock-solid mid-palate depth and building tannins. Give this mouth-filling, nicely structured 2021 two to three years in the cellar, and it's going to evolve for at least a decade. It's not the most elegant wine out there, but it brings solid density, and it's an impressive wine in a challenging vintage.

Deep purple-colored, the 2021 Côte-Rôtie Champon's is a solid effort in this challenging vintage. Checking in at 13.5% alcohol, it wafts from the glass with ripe raspberry, black cherry and cedar paired with cured meat. Gentle tannins neatly frame this moderately concentrated 2021, landing on a bright finish. I prefer the Champon's over both the Les Grandes Places and the Löss in this vintage.
