Score 92/100 · Drink 2013-2021, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Oct 2006

The estate's top Barbaresco is the Bricco Asili. Made from vines that are over 25 years old and aged in 100% new oak, the 2001 displays a deeper color and is darker, richer and more concentrated than the Bernardot, with notes of licorice, tobacco and spices dominating the nose. On the palate it is masculine, austere and balsamic, with flavors of dark fruits and plums, finishing with chewy tannins.

Full red, deeper than the Bernadot but not brighter. Spicy red fruits, flowers and exotic spices on the nose. Tight, juicy and penetrating, with a strong mineral quality. Denser but even more backward than the Bernadot. Finishes with firm but fine tannins and excellent length. This wears its oak gracefully.

(aging in 100% new barriques) Good deep bright red. Musky, oaky aromas dominated by espresso and chocolate. Ripe and sweet, with more energy and thrust than the house's other 2001 Barbarescos. This has real tensile strength and shows strong wood tannins on the finish today. Due to hail in late spring, this vineyard produced barely half a normal crop in 2001.
