The 2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru has a stemmy nose, well defined with black plum and cranberry scents plus a touch of Seville orange marmalade. The palate is well balanced with a dose of black pepper on the entry, quite tarry in style. The 2023 is a little nod to Côte Rôtie in some ways, with a nicely structured, gutsy finish and will needs four or five years in bottle.

The 2023 Echézeaux Grand Cru comes from the "Les Beaux Monts Bas" lieu-dit, though Paul Gros told me he is no longer allowed to state the full name on the label. This has a fresh and focused bouquet, with the 15% whole bunch imparting a touch of white pepper. It just needs a little more vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a little more flesh than the aromatics imply, though again, I am seeking just a bit more mineralité to come through on the finish. It's in its early days ... there's more to come.

For the first time Les Loachausses on its own. A medium ruby purple. The nose is very engaging, strawberry and raspberry. While the same fruit continuing on the palate could be just a little simple, there is enough grip to make this not the case, and the return of the whole bunch feel, adds structure as well as lifting the finish. A fractional coffee note at the very end complexifies the long finish.
