Drink 2030-2045, FINE+RARE, Nov 2024

The 2023 Clos de la Roche offers a ripe nose, but is balanced and perfumed. Then something magical happens. The nose leads you to expect a rich and powerful wine, but the palate delivers a superbly fresh and fruit-driven mouthful, driven by linear tannins, well-balanced and with a sublime, pure minerality. The finish is long and clean. This is, once again at Roche de Bellene, a proper Clos de la Roche. The fruit was all de-stemmed, with four barrels produced and 50% aged in new oak (the rest in one-year-old barrels).

50% new oak. 100% destemmed. Cask sample. Bright crimson. Nascent on the nose but very vivid and polished on the palate. Tannin nudges in only on the end but it is very recognisably Morey. Good attack. Very lively and long.
