Tasting notes
Orange peel, mint, sweet red cherry and cranberry give the 2012 much of its lifted, aromatically expressive personality, but the 2012 is far from an easygoing Barbaresco. It packs a serious punch. This is a serious, structured Barbaresco that will improve over the next decade or more, as well as a terrific effort for the year. The 2012 spent 30 months in oak, 70% cask and 30% neutral oak.

The Pio Cesare 2012 Barbaresco offers evident fruit ripeness that takes away from the deeper complexity of the wine. This is an approachable expression of Nebbiolo with a simple delivery and a pretty bouquet that is composed of dark fruit, spice and herbal-balsam elements. Sweet tobacco and leather appear on the close.
