FINE+RARE, Oct 2024
A little reductive at first, with air this 1999 Clos du Roi reveals a savoury, mature nose – with leather, smoke and earth all shifting in and out of focus. On the palate, there’s an amazing weight of rich, dark fruit, intense yet with vibrant acidity and a fine grip of tannin. Smooth and brambly, with its umami richness driving through onto the long, vibrant finish.
About the producer

Domaine Robert Ampeau
The epitome of old-school Burgundy, the Meursault-based Domaine Robert Ampeau crafts traditional wines, both red and white. Today run by Michel Ampeau, the property’s wines are – unlike most producers today – only released when they are ready to drink, often with 20-plus years in bottle.
