Tasting notes
Just mid ruby. Balsamic and herbal more than fruity. Sweet-sour cherry palate that is distinctly medium-bodied, notwithstanding its 14.5% alcohol. Fresh and lively but not very long and lacking in gravitas. (WS)

The Camigliano 2016 Brunello di Montalcino offers a more robust bouquet compared to its peers, with its dark and saturated fruit. One thing Camigliano has going for it is that it always delivers the characteristics of its environment. In this case, the vines are located in a warm, sun-drenched corner of Tuscany, and the warm ripeness of the fruit is a testament of place. You also get aromas of scorched earth, grilled porcino mushroom and a touch of burnt rubber or summer asphalt. This is an ample 150,000-bottle production.
The 2016 Camigliano Brunello di Montalcino leads off with a slightly herbal and stemmy character, which over time blends with notes of woodland berries and moist soil tones. It’s soft and fleshy with intensely sweet medicinal cherry and spice contrasted by zippy acids and a hint of sour citrus. This finishes gently tannic and leaning more toward the dark fruit spectrum, where blackberry mixes with notes of tobacco. There is a rusticity here that’s not for everyone. In the end, it’s a Brunello to enjoy sooner rather than later.
