Exotic notes of redcurrants, raspberry liqueur, spring flowers, and sandalwood all define the bouquet of the 2019 Château La Couspaude, a more medium-bodied, seamless 2019 that shows the style of the vintage nicely. Already complex, up-front, and undeniably delicious, it's ideal for drinking over the coming 10-12 years or more. The blend is 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2019 La Couspaude offers up generous aromas of blackberries, cherries and currants framed by a generous application of spicy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a rich core of sun-kissed fruit, lively acids and powdery tannins, concluding with a wood-inflected finish. Readers who appreciate more fruit-driven, front-loaded wines will find plenty of appeal here.

The 2019 La Couspaude has a fleshy, ripe nose featuring mulberry, red plums, incense and touches of white pepper. It already feels quite open. The palate is medium-bodied and fleshy with soft tannins, but missing some backbone and grip. Quite sweet and playful on the finish, where it displays touches of blueberry and orange zest, this is a Saint-Émilion that I would broach in its first decade.
