The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée is also very promising, revealing aromas of peach, mandarin oil, white flowers, beeswax, buttery pastry and fresh apricot. Full-bodied, layered and enveloping, with huge levels of dry extract and old-vine concentration, it's lively and penetrating, with a long, expansive finish. Again, this should really come together with another winter on the lees.

The 2019 Chassagne-Montrachet La Romanée 1er Cru was a little cloudy and too primal on the nose. The palate is much easier to read with impressive weight and attractive traces of apricot, orange pith, stem ginger and a hint of curry leaf towards the finish that fans out confidently. Plenty of energy here, although this year I discern a little more elegance on the Grands Montagne. It will be interesting to revisit this in bottle.
