Tasting notes
The 2023 Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Trocken is clear, coolish and fresh on the intense and stony/mineral layered nose that indicates a classical Rheingau style from phyllite soils. Elegant and refined, this mouth-filling, saline and savory Riesling develops a long, intense and wonderfully stringent finish. The wine is full-bodied and concentrated and driven by the energy and piquancy of the rockier Turmberg soils and its exposition. This is long, savory and saline. 12.5% stated alcohol. Screw cap. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

The 2023 Riesling Kiedricher Turmberg Erste Lage, sourced from a site of mica schist with thin topsoil, fermented spontaneously in Doppelstück and Stück after skin contact. The nose has a flicker of wood spice. More air brings out a touch of green bergamot peel. The palate is a picture of clarity, brilliance and translucency, with immense juiciness but less obvious fruit. A beautiful aromatic zestiness adds vivid lemon tanginess to the finish. Lovely, long and oh so fresh. (Bone-dry)
Erste Lage. Pure slate delivers the stony, shady side of Rheingau Riesling. A complex aria of delicate, barely-there fruit aromas. White blossoms, meadow grass, apricot stone. Elegant, goal-oriented citrus focus overlaid on gauzy layers of herbal spice and wild mint. Taut concentration. Hints of citrus zest, lime juice, kumquat. Stunning, serious depths and still light years from its potential. (PS)
