The 2005 Merlot-Syrah Vin de Pays de Vaucluse unwinds with pronounced raspberry liqueur, forest floor, melted licorice and black cherry compote. Ivy notes add a refreshing layer. Bold, powerful and concentrated, the 2005 is built around a solid yet polished tannic core and walks off the stage with an expressive finale. I’d score it even higher were it not for the noticeable heat that marks the aftertaste.
