Tasting notes
The 1997 Chardonnay Lorenzo Vineyard is compelling, offering liquid slate/petroleum-like notes. Full-bodied, powerful, and expansive, with laser-like focus, the Lorenzo possesses lemony, peach, apricot, steely flavors crammed into a full-bodied, powerful, impressively concentrated personality. It is simply sensational, so excuse the verbose wine speak. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2007. (release date 3/00) This wine is available through the winery's mailing list, although some preferred Napa Valley restaurants, particularly the French Laundry, and in New York (Daniel and La Bernadin), seem to receive noteworthy allocations. Hazy, unfiltered appearance. Deep, somewhat reduced aromas of nuts and oatmeal. Large-scaled and rich, with a chewy texture. Pineapple and leesy flavors are supported by sound acid structure. Slightly austere today and built to age. But based on this showing, not as deep or long as some recent vintages of this bottling.
