Tasting notes
Organic. Mostly Sangiovese with some Ciliegiolo and Grenache. Spends about a year and a half in large oak casks. Raspberries and raspberry-bush leaf. Blackcurrant bud. Sweet and ripe and a bit like coffee syrup but seems a bit heavy and simple. I much prefer the Mezzanotte which, despite also being a sweet, alcoholic 15 percenter, has more complexity and balance. Made with organic fruit, the PoggioargentierA 2017 Capatosta is a pure expression of Sangiovese from the Tuscan Coast. The sunshine and sea breezes of the area contribute to the saturated appearance of this wine and the bold purple fruit and plummy aromas that lift from the bouquet. Like the other wines from this estate (under the same ownership of the celebrated Tua Rita estate in Suvereto not too far away), the priority here is freshness, purity and accessibility. This is a clean and direct wine to pair with your favorite pasta dish. Delicate mineral tones and some tart cherry appear on the close.
Since the dried cherries here are complemented by very fresh sage and citrus, you would never guess this wine has 15% alcohol. Meanwhile, the tannins are very tense and quite powerful for this price point and the acidity is mineral and mouthwatering. Drink from 2021.
