Barrel sample. Deep cherry red. The nose is marked by spicy, toasty sweet oak, as is the palate, but the fruit is bright and lively underneath. Chalky but smooth tannins, elegantly structured and mouth-wateringly fresh on the finish. (JH)
The 2019 Clos de la Roche Grand Cru, matured with 50% whole bunch, has a well-defined bouquet of dark berry fruit, white pepper and light orange peel scents, becoming more mineral-driven with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a tart entry, fine grip and a saline, lightly spiced finish that conveys a sense of joy. Plenty of energy is locked inside this Grand Cru, and it has impressive length. This is definitely worth checking out. Two barrels produced.

Nicolas Potel is one of Burgundy’s most talented and connected winemakers. He created Maison Roche de Bellene, the négoce arm of Domaine de Bellene, in 2008, using his extensive network in the region to source top-quality fruit for an "haute couture" négociant operation.
