Score 91/100 · Drink 2008-2025, Pierre Rovani, Dec 2004

Boasting a nose riddled with botrytis, spices, and white pepper, the 2003 Riesling Auslese Wehlener Sonnenuhr (long gold cap) is light to medium-bodied as well as well-focused. Youthfully reserved, it displays outstanding depth, concentration, and length, yet the wine’s mineral, botrytis, slate, and red currant-laced fruit is restrained. My notes read: “could really be something special if it blossoms with time.” Projected maturity: 2008-2025. Importers: Rudi Wiest Selections by Cellars International, Inc., Carlsbad, CA; tel.
