Tenuta Regaleali Tasca d'Almerita's flagship wine is the 2019 Sicilia Contea di Sclafani Rosso del Conte, a blend of 53% Nero d'Avola and 47% Perricone. This vintage shows budding tertiary aromas with medicinal and balsam herb that give this wine extra lift and vertical intensity. They are very strong however. The fruit is buried underneath with blackberry, baked plum and black olive. The Vigneto San Lucio was planted with head-pruned vines in 1959 with the two varieties featured in this blend. The sandy soils are brownish and yellow in color with a good presence of limestone. This wine ages in 100% new French oak for 18 months. Production is 30,000 bottles.

A sleeping giant, the 2019 Rosso del Conte slowly evolves with a whiff of crushed violet, stone dust, incense and white smoke enshrouding a core of wild blueberry. The palate is soft and round, with juicy acidity and crisp berry fruits elevated by a hint of tangerine and spice. The 2019 maintains fantastic energy despite its youthfully structured state. Sweet tannins frame a lasting note of tart cherry that lingers for well over a minute. I followed the 2019 over the course of 24 hours and it only got better each time I checked in on it.
