An explosive, full-bodied wine, the 2006 Paleo Rosso boasts stunning depth, power and richness. Tertiary notes are right around the corner in a wine that is entering its peak drinking window. The style is all about power. Over time, the flamboyant side of the vintage has become increasingly apparent. In 2006, the final phase of maturation was quite fast and, as a result, the wine sits on the edge of being overripe. Today, my sense is that upside potential is limited in this vintage.

Rich and sweet and a bit fragile. Great intent but it doesn’t yet taste as though it comes from the vineyard. Awfully dry on the end. (JR)

100% Cabernet Franc. Blackcurrant fruit, ink, lovely leafy herbs on the nose – not intrusive or under-ripe. Firm tannins on the finish and lots of concentration that can age very well – in fact, right now it is quite tight. (RH)

The 2006 Paleo Rosso (Cabernet Franc) bursts from the glass with an exciting array of violets, minerals, dark cherries, grilled herbs and French oak. This is a sensual, layered Paleo endowed with tons of elegance and class. The refined finish and silky tannins are those of a first-rate wine. Today the oak is a bit pronounced, but another year or two in bottle should help the wine come together.
