2016 Nuits St Georges La Charmotte

(40% vendange entier ; 50% new oak; just six barrels were produced from one hectare of vines exposed to the combe influence): Bright, dark red. Dark cherry, dark berries and a hint of flowers on the nose. Sappy dark fruit flavors convey an impression of solidity, with an element of warm spices and smoky limestone extending the finish and supporting the wine's serious dusting of tannins. Liger-Belair feels that owing to low yields, many Nuits-Saint-Georges '16s from vineyards on the north side of the town are more burly and masculine than usual.
