Tasting notes
Sweet and fruit forward, there are nice big layers here. Nebbiolo can offer borderline sweetness in the hot vintages. The 2011 growing season was one of the warmest in recent memory, and you get all that extra padding and layering in the 2011 Barolo Serralunga.

The 2011 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga is a gorgeous wine that captures the personality of the vintage and the village of Serralunga. Exotic spices, tobacco, menthol, licorice, smoke, iron and plums all flesh out in the glass. Although the tannins are a bit coarse, the 2011 has more than enough density and other redeeming qualities to compensate, especially at this level. This is one of the few 'Barolos del Comune di Serralunga' that delivers as advertised.
The 2011 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga is one of the best entry-level Barolos readers will find. One of the things I like most about this wine is how it brings together both the personality of Serralunga and the house style in a Barolo that is both affordable and easy to drink young. There is no shortage of depth in the bold dark blue and black-hued fruit, smoke, tar, licorice and violet notes, while the insistent Serralunga tannins suggest the 2011 will drink well for a number of years.
Pira's 2011 Barolo Serralunga is rich, ample and textured in the glass, with softer tannins than is normally the case. Silky and racy, the 2011 is likely to drink well pretty much right out of the gate.
