Bright medium red. Alluring lift to the aromas of cherry, raspberry, minerals and rose petal. A supple, savory wine with lovely inner-mouth energy and floral lift to its juicy red raspberry and spice flavors. Delicate, delineated and light on its feet but with no shortage of intensity. Finishes juicy and persistent, with fine-grained tannins and excellent lift. A very refined version of Petite Chapelle.

The 2016 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru la Petite Chapelle has a floral, well-defined bouquet with perfumed red cherry and strawberry fruit, crushed rose petals and a touch of vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite cohesive and focused with a fine bead of acidity and a tensile, slightly tinny finish that will disappear by the time of bottling. This is worth investigating.

Cask sample. 18–20 months in French oak. Mid crimson. After the oaky Clos des Ormes, this is a return to fruit fragrance, darker fruited than the Chambolles, as you might expect. Firm and slightly chewy on the palate, dry finesse. Lovely youthful potential here. All to come. Just slightly abrupt on the finish at the moment. (JH)
