Wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis and plums mingled with spices and cherries, the 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Clos de la Barre Monopole (Maison Louis Jadot) is medium to full-bodied, supple and succulent, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a pretty, delicately herbal core of fruit.

The 2018 Volnay Clos de la Barre 1er Cru has a precise, focused bouquet of well-defined black and red fruit mixed with cedar and light minty aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, quite rounded and smooth in texture. Good depth toward the finish, but I was expecting a little more complexity and mineralité .
A monopole with thin, chalky topsoils. Fermented in large vats before maturation for at least 18 months in barrel. Floral, ethereal nose – real typicality. Raspberries and a hint of strawberry. Quite chalky, plenty of structure to age, but it remains light on its feet and aromatic to the finish. (TP)
