Opaque ruby. Highly perfumed, spice-accented aromas of black raspberry, smoky minerals and potpourri. Very young and slow to open, offering explosive red and dark fruit flavors and intense minerality, with a sexy note of candied rose. Round, ripe and seamless, with superb finishing clarity that features seductive floral and spice nuance and only a hint of tannins. This wine reminded me of a great Chambertin-Clos de Beze from Rousseau.

Cask sample. 1,000 bottles made. Very dark, very sweet and dense and lively. I can see the soil more here than in an earlier vintage I tasted. This is from a very particular plot and is effectively essence of Bierzo – at a price. (JR)
