Score 93/100 · Drink 2016-2022, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jun 2016

The 2004 Barbaresco Brich Ronchi is quite a bit more forward and voluptuous than the Loreto tasted alongside it. Ample and broad, the Brich Ronchi wraps around the palate with its generous personality and super-inviting contours. The new French oak remains a signature, yet the 2004 has aged nicely. All the elements are in the right place.

50% new barriques. Healthy mid ruby with orange tinges. Fine nose of cacao and posh oak covering the fruit, but it is by no means gone. Succulent cherry with a bite of stalky tannins on the finish. Still youthful and hedonistic. (WS)

Moderately saturated red-ruby. Less open on the nose than the Loreto, hinting at camphor and black cherry. Juicy, pure and tightly wound, with dark cherry and sweet, spicy oak flavors given thrust by firm underlying minerality. A distinctly sharper style of wine, with building tannins, but the finish is nonetheless long, sweet and perfumed. And the tannins are even finer than those of the '05.

The 2004 Barbaresco Bric Ronchi reveals a deep, dark color and a full-bodied, weighty expression of ripe fruit. Long and sweet on the palate, this fat, ripe Barbaresco offers outstanding length and plenty of style. It was aged 70% in French oak (80% new) and 30% cask.
