Tasting notes
Clear, dense and spicy on the nose, the 2021 Ried Kreutles Loibner Grüner Veltliner Smaragd is a deep, mineral and spicy white wine with tea and legume aromas. Very rich and fat on the palate but also spicy and savory, this is a generous but not very animating Kreutles with plenty of substance and firm tannins but no dancing leg. A rather stout Veltliner now. Tasted at Schloss Dürnstein, Wachau, in September 2022.

Unterloiben. The Kreutles vineyard, at the foot of the Loibenberg, is formed of loess. Concentrated and refreshing palate of lime zest and stone. Smoky minerality and dark spice. Closed at the moment, but one senses the shadows of structured power lurking behind the high but integrated alcohol. Incredible poise and texture. A mouth-watering bitterness strikes like a viper's bite on the finish, lending added dimension and tension. (PS)
