Tasting notes
This is the entry-level red, or the so-called annata wine. The Castello di Monsanto 2020 Chianti Classico is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo and Colorino aged in large oak casks for 15 months. Production is big with 55,000 bottles made. The wine is exceedingly simple and fresh, and it nails these objectives even in a hot vintage such as 2020. It shows medium-dark concentration and plenty of dark fruit and cherry.

The 2020 Chianti Classico is a very pretty, appealing wine. Bright acids lift a core of Sangiovese fruit. Floral top notes and silky tannins lend energy to this mid-weight, wonderfully alluring Chianti Classico from Monsanto.
San Donato in Poggio. 90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, 5% Colorino. Cask sample. Lustrous mid crimson. Perfumed red fruit with minerally, earthy undertones. Light, juicy fruit with bags of crunchy tannins and lively acidity on the finish. (WS)
