Tasting notes
The 2023 Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Vecchie Vigne is perfumed and spicy with honeyed flowers, ground ginger, nectarines and lime zest. It's soft and round with a lemony concentration that saturates early. Green melon and savory herb notes swirl throughout. This finishes with a sweet and sour sensation and crisp minerality, leaving hints of young peach to linger. It’s remarkably pretty, yet it is just half of the typical production due to the vintage conditions.

The 2023 Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Vecchie Vigne is sweetly floral and spiced with candied citrus and musky white peach tones. This sweeps across the palate with a touch of ripe orchard fruit and a distinct spicy character, further enhanced by stimulating acidity. The challenging 2023 vintage yielded throwback wines reminiscent of those from the 1970s and 1980s. I can't wait to see how this matures.
About the producer

Emidio Pepe is a star of the Abruzzo region and one of Italy’s most famous names. Worshipped by natural-wine lovers for its low-intervention approach, this estate makes category-defying, age-worthy examples of Montepulciano, Trebbiano and Cerasolo d’Abruzzo, as well as Pecorino Colli Aprutini.
