AP number 16 22. Floral nose. Lots of texture and detail here. Good balance. Not at all meagre. (JR)

The 2021 Pündericher Marienburg Grosses Gewächs Fahrlay deliciously intertwines smoke with green Seville orange peel on the nose with all its aromatic allure. The palate is incisive, bright and tingles with citrus intensity both in terms of acidity and aroma. Wonderfully lasting, beautifully profound. This seems to reach far further than the palate, filling the entire mind with its beautifully pure citrus aroma. Wow. 6.2g/L of sweetness and 8.3 g/L of acidity. (Dry)

Bewitching aromatic finesse with delicate threads of meadow flowers, apple blossom, smoky reduction, apple skin and ripe melon. Maybe the spicy suggestion of fresh ginger. Quite saline on the palate, stopping just short of bitter. Rocky peaks rise as if from a vinous, savoury sea: stony, daunting, tense. Ridiculously complex. A softer grip and supple texture speaks to a more balanced whole. (PS)

The 2021 Marienburg GG Fahrlay is enormously pure and flinty on the intense and almost iodine nose that reveals stony and phenolic aromas with mocha notes. Lush and very elegant on the palate, this is a round, intense, textured and balanced Fahrlay with ripe and piquant yet elegant acidity intermingled with young, phenolic grip and mineral tension. With less than seven grams per liter of residual sugar, this is possibly the driest GG of the vintage here. Tasted as a sample at the domaine in July 2022.
