Tasting notes
Blend of two old-vine vineyards – La Vallee de la Cote and La Panquenelle. One-third whole-bunch fermentation, with maturation in 300- to 500-litre wood for 18 months. Generous, ripe red-berry fruit, floral notes, fresh acidity and plenty of structure for further development. High-class Loire Pinot Noir and a great advert for red Sancerre. (AWH)

The 2022 Le Chatan de l'Archet is sourced from a parcel of more than 60-year-old vines. West-facing, it captures the evening sun, which promotes ripening. It is a complete style with sweet, damson fruit, herbal notes and cola. A sense of purpose pervades it, as does a chalky, confident, tannic grip. You'll struggle to find a better Pinot Noir at the price (20 euros at the cellar door). Buy up before prices go up.
