The Uccelliera 2022 Rosso di Montalcino shows a dark ruby color with tart cherry highlights. You get bitter almond and, generally speaking, the wine excels at delivering bright primary intensity. It would pair perfectly with a pizza such as a simple Margherita with buffalo mozzarella. There is mild tannic intensity, and the wine is nicely put together. Production is 25,866 bottles plus larger formats.

The 2022 Rosso di Montalcino entices with a whiff of mint leaf and sage before giving way to crushed black cherries, clove and white smoke. This shows the ripeness of the vintage in a beautifully balanced package, with mineral-laced red and blue fruits that swirl across textures of pure silk. It finishes incredibly long, repeating its mineral strength. Sweet tannins linger through the violet-tinged finale. The 2022 is an understated beauty.

A ripe red color, the 2022 Rosso Di Montalcino is a potent little Rosso on the nose, with notes of wild cherries, anise, and pine needles. Medium-bodied, with good structure, it’s showing the warmth of the vintage, with modest acidity. but it retains good freshness in spite of that. It’s a very charming wine to enjoy over the next 2-3 years. Located in Castelnuova dell’Abate, Uccelliera’s first vintage was in 1991. Andrea Cortonesi purchased the farmland in 1986, and he continues to operate the estate today. His philosophy is simply to respect the terroir and to hold a strong commitment to the sense of place. He believes in a homeopathic approach to viticulture, to observe, listen, and work together with nature. The property includes vineyard holdings in three areas that range from 150 to 350 meters in elevation. They utilize large Slavonian 40-hectoliter barrels as well as 225-liter French barrique.
