Lightly smoky nose. Full and broad even if without quite the lift of the Princée but with real substance and beef. (JR)

Taken directly from barrel, the 2013 Santenay 1er Cru Clos des Gravières is matured in one-third new wood. It has a brisk earthy bouquet that is tightly coiled at the moment, but nicely delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, plenty of sappy red berried fruit with a stern cranberry-driven finish. A little strict, this will probably need a couple of years aging in bottle.
